Top 2’s of 2012 – Cities, Adventures and Booze

Jan03

Another year has come, gone and left us with more video footage than we almost care to reflect on. We’re still editing adventures from 2012 (and even a few from 2011!) and while the year may be over, the adventures will still seem new.

It was our year to explore the Eastern coast of North America. We began in Texas and trekked all the way up through Canada crossing back into the states via Maine and coasted into New Mexico before ending the year in Arizona. After looking back at everything, everywhere and all of our 2012 experiences we came up with the top 2’s in cities, adventures and booze. Why the top 2’s you ask; because 1 is a lonely number (and we’re just too indecisive to narrow it down). So here is goes…

Top 2 Cites:

Charleston, South Carolina
Because it’s as close to Europe as you’re going to get and still be in the states (and lets face it, nothing beats good southern cooking).

St. Joseph Peninsula, Florida
Sometimes nothing beats basking in warm water and doing cart wheels on white beaches. Especially when it’s one of the top beaches in the world! (yes we said the world).  Read more

What Can Solar Power Do For an RV?

Nov20

One question we get often is “what all can be powered by solar panels on an RV?”  The question is simple, the answer…well, it’s a bit more complicated.

First, let’s look at the RV Solar Power set up we have on Windy:

I know that was quick and brief but hopefully it gives you an idea of what our set up looks like and how it works.  As you see we have two 65 watt solar panels for a grand total of 130 watts.  Our solar power setup isn’t perfect and can be improved providing more power.  That said we’re happy with our purchase as it does allow us to live off the cord longer (without having to run the generator) than the standard RVer.

Anniversary on the Road!

Jun27

Saturday June 16,2012 – Anniversary on the Road!

Our first camper was a 1985 VW pop up Westfalia that I purchased in late 2005.  It was my Uncle Mikes fishing camper but with his retirement around the corner and the purchase of a new Class A motorhome it was time for it to go.  I loved that little camper and the moment I found out he was selling it, it was sold before he could even list it!  Jason at the time thought it was the worst idea and purchase I had ever made! I on the other hand was ecstatic and quickly planning my adventures in the little camper.  June 2006 we loaded up our families and headed for Seaside Florida.  From Dallas Texas Seaside is about a 15 hour drive so we camped along the way and sweated bucket loads (no ac in the little camper).
