Offbeat Adventures, Summer Eats and Border Crossings in Yuma

May26

Have you ever wanted to go somewhere but didn’t really know why?  Yuma, Arizona is one of those places for us.  When we tell people we’re headed to, or just spent time in Yuma, we always get mixed responses.  People either don’t know where it is, think it’s for old people, there is nothing to do or they’re a  snowbird that doesn’t want the rest of the world to know about their winter paradise.

For us, Yuma is a wonderland of crazy, historical and sometimes weird adventures.  Plus there’s tons of fresh produce, patio dining in the middle of winter and a great place to cross the border for cheap medical!  Still don’t think Yuma sounds interesting?  Well obviously you never watched Christian Bale and Russell Crowe in the movie 3:10 to Yuma and you need to…but before you go clicking over to itunes or Netflix, here is a video roundup of six solid reasons to add Yuma to your winter road trip.

Exploring Tucson – Saguaros, Snow and Sustenance

May17

There are three key ingredients to a great town or city: soul, sustenance and youth.  If a town has all three plus scenery or major points of interest (national park, monument, preserve…) or both, then it gets bumped from great town to great destination.

Tucson has a little of each and made it in our top five destinations for Arizona.

Voyager RV Resort – Tucson, AZ

May15

Located on the eastern edge of Tucson Arizona, Voyager RV Resort consistently gets top reviews from Woodall’s, Good Sam and others.   After staying for a week at this resort we were officially on board with being a snowbird!

Sure the price was a little more than some of the other area resorts but here, you get what you pay for.  This resort was all about the amenities and activities, more so than any other resort we have ever been too!

Baroque in Arizona – Mission San Xavier Del Bac

May02

If you’ve ever driven across the vast deserts of Arizona you know it holds many treasures, however few compare to the stunning Mission San Xavier del Bac. The mission is the oldest intact European structure in Arizona and claims to be ‘the best example of Spanish Colonial architecture in the US’.  Affectionately called the ‘White Dove of the Desert” this Baroque designed mission was built in the late 1700’s by Franciscans to spread Christianity to the Native Americans (actually the mission was founded in 1692, but the church you see today came nearly 100 years later).

Top 2’s of 2012 – Cities, Adventures and Booze

Jan03

Another year has come, gone and left us with more video footage than we almost care to reflect on. We’re still editing adventures from 2012 (and even a few from 2011!) and while the year may be over, the adventures will still seem new.

It was our year to explore the Eastern coast of North America. We began in Texas and trekked all the way up through Canada crossing back into the states via Maine and coasted into New Mexico before ending the year in Arizona. After looking back at everything, everywhere and all of our 2012 experiences we came up with the top 2’s in cities, adventures and booze. Why the top 2’s you ask; because 1 is a lonely number (and we’re just too indecisive to narrow it down). So here is goes…

Top 2 Cites:

Charleston, South Carolina
Because it’s as close to Europe as you’re going to get and still be in the states (and lets face it, nothing beats good southern cooking).

St. Joseph Peninsula, Florida
Sometimes nothing beats basking in warm water and doing cart wheels on white beaches. Especially when it’s one of the top beaches in the world! (yes we said the world).  Read more

On The Road Again, Again

Oct29

There is something about taking off for another year of adventure that just feels right.

Granted we have only been in Dallas for one month and 10 days of that was spent in Spain, it still feels like we are starting fresh again.  We spent time with our families, let go a little more of our old lives and belongings, spent countless hours in front of computers backing up and preparing for the future.  As we said our goodbyes and headed out of Dallas we almost immediately started feeling that strange adjustment in attitude with a new perspective in view.  It still amazes me how a trip never seems real until the moment it begins.  So here it is, our beginning to year 3 on the road again.

Now, if we could have only started a little earlier than 8pm…

Yes, we got a late start but it was a start none the less.  We drove through to Snyder, TX and called the Rip Griffin Travel Center home for the night amongst at least a dozen trucks.  There is nothing like the smell of exhaust and the sound of air brakes at a small town truck stop to start the trip off right.  We slept like babies.
