This is how we boost our cell and data signal inside the sailboat (same brand we used in the RV too).
It works by boosting cell signals up to 32x and enhances 4G LTE and 3G signals. Meaning it can help improve the quality of our calls and the speeds of our data.
It’s amazing how many times this booster has taken us from no bars to 3 bars or from no data signal to 3g or 4g. It’s the difference of being able to work from the comfort of our traveling home or having to go into town and find somewhere with wifi.
I can’t tell you how many times we’ve been the only boat in the anchorage able to make calls or get online. It’s saved our butts in the Bahamas, Panama, Ecuador and now French Polynesia!
Its important to know NOT all boosters are created equal. Some only boost cell or data, not both. Some are even illegal to use in certain countries. Plus, some claim to do the job but will only disappoint. WeBoost has been our go to for over six years because we’ve found nothing that preforms as well.
The weBoost 4G-X is the main device and comes with a basic outdoor and indoor antenna…but we upgraded both antennas and highly recommend doing so. Being out on anchor can really put some distance between us and the tower, the more powerful antennas make a world of difference.

Do the external and internal antenna you recommend have compatible cable connection points to the booster?

We are looking at purchasing the cell boost system – we have an identical boat to the Wynns 🙂 Wondering how the wiring was done and whether or not it would be an issue to put on the same antennae mount on which we have our wifi booster? That cable runs into the boat to a router in the starboard hull. Where did you locate the internal antennae/unit?
Curious Minion –
There’s some discussion of the internal antennae in this post on staying connected: https://www.gonewiththewynns.com/sailboat-wifi-phone-satellite Good luck with it all, & thanks for sailing with us!

Your system – weboost + inside antenna works well. We get about 20 miles from a tower out of it. (Alicetown, Staniel Cay etc). Question: Have you found anything that will take the boosted cell signal and broadcast it to the rest of the boat as a local network? Coming up empty so far.
Some info you may find interesting:
We have a Globalstar 1700 satellite phone. The phone was free (some kind of refurbished deal); usage time is Unlimited (have that in writing). We pay 1200 usd per year. Do not actually use the phone very much. It has a very quick connect (one to two seconds) and very clear calls on both ends. OH -paid about 700$ for external antenna so you do not have to stand outside and hold the phone (picky about how you hold it – not like tv – antenna UP). WE are on a 50 foot trawler running from Nova Scotia to Florida and some Bahamas. You will likely not find this package on the Globalstar website. If interested let me know and I will dig up the contact information. Think the saleman’s name is Mario. A bit of a laid back bunch it seems; not always instant on the callback but the system is real and works.
Good job on your videos. You really work hard.

The WiFi ranger can do some of that, but it sounds like you just need a simple router? More on the WiFi Ranger and general connectivity in this post: https://www.gonewiththewynns.com/sailboat-wifi-phone-satellite

Hey guys!
What about the Band? In panama they are running on band 28 I think, and weboost is on another band. Will it work anyway?

Hi, so I don’t see where you mounted the outdoor antenna? mast? Spreader? Just cabin top in the back? I have been trying different options without much success. I believe my issue has been with placement of the outside antenna. I am going to give it one more shot, but would appreciate any guidance or direction on placement. Logic would say top of mast, but then there is heel angle which I believe I read somewhere is not ideal. I would be looking to use this 90% of the time while under sail and 1-2nm offshore, not sure if I should try to mount the antenna at 10-15 slant to compensate for the heel? Thanks, Joel
Curious Minion –
I believe it’s mounted at the back of the solar arch. If you go to the “how we stay connected” post you can see the antenna cluster in the still photo at the top. https://www.gonewiththewynns.com/sailboat-wifi-phone-satellite I believe they mentioned in that video that it doesn’t need to be mounted at the top of the mast because the terrain is almost flat. Not sure about the heel angle since it’s not an issue for them. Maybe some of our other monohull owners can chime in?

I took your advice an ordered boosters , antenna and extension cable. While on the Weboost site I noticed they had a new and improved model so I purchased the new Drive Reach. Had them all shipped air to the Philippines. So excited until I noticed the Drive Reach cable connections are not compatible with the antenna and the WiFi booster. They are much smaller. What to do?
Curious Minion –
Have you contacted WeBoost to see what they recommend?

Hey guys!
The antenna you recommend is a 4 g antenna, will it also work on 3g?
How did you experience the boost in panama and French Polynesia? Did it work?
Curious Minion –
If you follow the link to the Amazon page, it says right in the bullet points that it works with 3g. https://www.amazon.com/weBoost-Drive-Signal-Booster-devices/dp/B00WMFXE5O/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1467310375&sr=8-1&keywords=weboost+4g+x&linkCode=sl1&tag=gonwitthewyn-20&linkId=878e64b64266ba95b90f5c51589e5909
They don’t have connectivity at the moment but we’ll see if they chime in on how it worked in Panama & FP.

It works on everything up to 4g, so yes. It boosts it all. It has worked great in all the countries we have visited so far. USA, Bahamas, Panama, Ecuador and French Polynesia!
Elliott –
Awesome article. If you have a second can you please explain function of inside antenna? I assume this is not a backup to external antenna but is what device uses to transmits hotspot signal to around the boat but that is just a hypothesis. Thanks!
Curious Minion –
That’s exactly what it does. The internal antenna that comes with most boosters is pretty feeble, so they’ve upgraded to cover the boat.

Hi Guys,
What cellular modem do you use after the weboost booster ? Just your phone or you also have a Cell modem with internal wifi router on board? Basically, where is the Sim card!?
The 2nd question is the model you bought is a good fit for US cellular bands, but i was wondering if it worked ok as well in central/south America and French Polynesia ?
thanks a lot!
C.

Hey Charlie. Hopefully this post will answer your questions: https://www.gonewiththewynns.com/sailboat-wifi-phone-satellite

Do you ever offer discount codes for Weboost?
Jim –
Do you run a wifi booster and 4g booster at the same time on the boat? Did you do anything special regarding outdoor / indoor antenna placement?
Nikki Wynn –
You certainly can run both at the same time. But just to clarify, our wifi booster (wifi ranger) and our cell/data booster (this weBoost 4G-X) are doing very different things. The Wifi booster, boosts an onshore wifi signal (from a hotel, restaurant, cafe…).
