Underwater Pumpkin Carving in the Desert?
Have you ever considered carving a pumpkin underwater? No. We hadn’t either until today. Every year in Arizona the Lake Havasu Dive Association holds an underwater pumpkin carving contest and we couldn’t resist. The annual event is staged by Captain Kathy of the association and all you have to do is show up with your pumpkin and gear in hand. So, we did just that!
We armed ourselves with cheap tiny saws, a little imagination and suited up. We gut our pumpkins and swim down 15-30ft to sculpt away. We have 30min to do our best. Judges rate our aquatic pumpkins on their artistic originality, as well as the degree of difficulty to carve the entry in the watery and buoyant environment. I have to admit that it was not as difficult as I thought it was going to be, but it was a challenge!
Check out the video, take notes of the tips I was given and make a strategy. After watching this, you may just decide to join in or start your own annual underwater event! Lake Havasu Divers make good use of their lake and even if you are land locked, someone you know must have a pool!

What a hoot! I never would have thought of something like that. Too funny. I’m glad you guys are still well into finding and trying out new things and, as always, you guys seem to be game to try just about anything. We just don’t see the things you say “nan-uhn!!” to. 😉 Thank you so much for sharing these great videos (and your fun) with all of us. Hugs to you both. Jan and Dave xoxo

Did you ever imagine that you would be having these kinds of experiences when you bought your RV and set out on the road? Who knew that Lake Havasu hosted such a cool underwater contest.

Rick, I can honestly say we NEVER thought we’d be in the middle of the Desert, SCUBA diving, AND carving a pumpkin underwater. If this 1 video doesn’t show people they need to get out and explore I don’t know what will! Thanks for your comments.

This is too cool I think you blew all the other pumpkins out of the water. Haha literally.( like how I laugh at my own corny jokes?)

Thanks! You are funny, you should laugh at yourself! I didn’t even think of using the stuff in the lake as decorations, so I thought some of the other pumpkins were pretty clever.
