Our Most EXCITING Day of Narrowboating

We have crossed a lot of borders by land, air, and sea.  But never have we ever had anything as stunning, or as memorable, as this crossing from England to Wales by narrowboat.

If I had to describe navigating the Llangollen canal in one sentence, it would be: High action in slow motion.  The first 11 miles are designated as a world heritage site for its beauty and historic engineering…and it’s easy to see why.

Join us today as we cross the stream in the sky (aka the highest aqueduct in the world), go through the longest, darkest tunnel in Wales and make our way to the source of it all, horseshoe falls.  This is the day we’ve been waiting for and the whole reason we choose this canal as our first narrowboat adventure.

🛟Cruising The Cut

If you missed our first narrowboat video with David Johns, AKA Cruising The Cut…then you missed a lot.  David has an entire channel dedicated to all things associated with cruising the canals of Great Britain.  And he couldn’t resist the opportunity to make a video about us, a couple of American sailors having a go at narrowboating.

🙏 Thank YOU!

Thank you for watching!  Ups, downs, and all around, we share it all. If you like what you see, there are lots of ways you can show your support.

Hello there! I honestly don’t know what to say, so I am going to tell you a bunch of random facts instead. I'm a fish eating vegetarian who hates spiders and loves snakes. I almost never took vacations growing up. I wanted to be Pippi Longstocking (still do). I misspell about every other word I write and still struggle with grammar. I love splurging on a good high tea (which is really hard to find these days). And whatever you do, don’t tell me I can’t do something, because then I'll HAVE to do it!

When you ask a US bar if they have beer in anything else but a bottle/can, it’s the same question in the UK. And that is ….drumroll…what do you have on tap? And that’s what the lever for beer is called: the tap!

Can you tell me where you started and ended this trip

      Hey Mike,
The trip began at ABC Hire and there’s a link to them in the blog post which should give you their location. I don’t know if they mentioned the ending town or not, but a quick internet search for Llangollen Canal Horseshoe Falls should give you the end point. David’s website Cruising the Cut may also have more resources for planning trips. His videos are great if you want to do a canal trip, so check out the channel! Hope you get to take the trip!

What an incredible journey you had! I can’t wait to hear all the details!

I loved all the animals, especially the baby lambs! How much fun is it to see new life coming into the world?!

Spring is just here in Alaska and I’m surrounded by equally as much beauty.

    Love to you!

If it was my boat, I would tie up for an occasional snack at one of the many Pubs. But that is me.

That’s what I heard they were going to do when they were here visiting. Surely they popped in to one or two…

Well that was certainly part of the plan! They mentioned last week that their intended pub stop appeared to be closed. Sadly, like so many small businesses, some pubs didn’t survive the years of pandemic closures & restrictions. Hopefully they’ll all be back in business soon.
