There’s nothing worse than sitting in a beautiful park reading a new book (on your e-reader), getting to the big suspenseful moment and ________, you just ran out of battery!  Or maybe you’re tired of Electronic Vampires sucking the electricity from your home or RV.  We were!  So we took matters into our own hands: our ‘Silver Bullet’ is a Solio Bolt.  It’s a small device that captures the power of sun’s rays and stores it in a (built-in) rechargeable battery.  We’ve been using our Bolt for a couple months to charge our phones, and our digital camera; we can honestly say this works and we love it.

Solio Bolt Charging Nook

The Bolt is simple to use:

  1. Stick it in the Sun for a Day
  2. Sunlight Charges the built-in Battery
  3. Plug in your Vampire Electronic Device (the Bolt charges most USB powered devices: Nook, GoPro, Smart Phone, GPS, CamelBak Water Purifier, etc.)
  4. Save some cash on your electricity bill and spend it on a Microbrew (or better yet, buy a friend one!)
  5. That’s all we’re tellin ya, if you want more check out the Solio Website.

What’s more cool you ask……how about getting a Solio Bolt for FREE!  We emailed Solio, told them “we love the Bolt solar charger” and showed them how we use it on the road.  Solio reached out and gave us a virtual high five!  Turns out they like Gone With the Wynns and offered to give away one of their Solio Bolt chargers to ONE of our lucky followers.  With a few clicks you’ll be entered to win one of your very own Electronic Vampire Killers!

      • It’s the Gremlins…it popped up on my FB Home page yesterday morning. It caught my eye because hiking season is here and Monday afternoon while out my cellphone died. I was thinking of getting a portable charger.

I’ve got to hand it to Facebook, now not only can they track our searches, they can track your thoughts as well.

So while were on the subject do you still use the charger and would you recommend it for a back-up while hiking?

    Hi,
I’ll use Solio Charger while I’m riding my bike. It is a problem for me to go on a longer ride with my phone with gps and music on. The battery won’t make it. But with Solio Solar Charger my journeys would be longer and i could explore more with my phone ready to use. With Solio I can be sure that my phone will be ready whenever i want to.

As someone who is actively searching for anything that will ‘get me off the grid’ this would definitely be a HUGE start. E-reader, cell-phone, you name it. Will have to check, but guessing there’s a good possibility that this little giant could very well possibly even charge the coach 12V batteries on my motorhome enough that I could possibly boondock on my next camping trip. Can’t wait to see if it’s me who wins!

I would use it to recharge my usb style batteries while on patrol in the mountains of Afghanistan, also my MP3 player. Has a Soldier when we go on a mission we bring a lot of batteries to power our lasers and Night Vision Googles, has well as flashlights, these batteries often begin to weight a lot after a while, so it would be nice to cut that weight. When you spend days walking throught those mountains every little pound you can cut helps.

We would use this charger for our nook, acer tablet and cell phones when we hit the road full time this summer in our 28 foot travel trailer (2012 Bullet by Keystone), pulled by our 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500. The $$ we save will go towards funding the gas we’ll need to stay on the road!

I would use this to charge my Nook and cellphone when out with my boys. My boys love the children’s books and apps on my Nook and the battery dies at the most inconvenient times. Would be perfect to have when we are out camping this summer. We had to sell our RV so we will be tent camping this summer. I would also use it at home to save on our electric bill! Living expenses are so high would be nice to cut down on those bills!
