Finding out where the locals hang in a small town can be tough, but in **Nacogdoches**, they come to you!

We love this little college town and the best way to get to know the town and its people is to **go where they go**. The good news is you don’t have to go far. In fact, if you are staying at the Hotel Fredonia you don’t have to go past the hotel bar! Well, at least during happy hour.

Nacogdoches is the **oldest town in Texas**, so rich in history is a given. Take a walk through historic downtown and stop by the Mercantile, an old-fashioned general store. It was once Stone’s Cafe, where **Bonnie Parker** worked. Of course, that was before she met **Clyde** and started robbing banks.

If you are a **Marx Brothers** fan, check out **The Runaway Mule**. Not only does the store have great history (and you want to hear the story from the owner), its filled with goodies by local artists.

Wondering around outside of town, we found all sorts of interesting sights. A small pond with a diving board (sadly, we didn’t capture the cow that was wading next to the diving board), beautifully dilapidated houses and even a potty on a pedestal.

**Stephen F. Austin University** is a big part of the town, as is any small college town. They take a lot of pride in the school’s campus activities and history. It was named after one of Texas’s founding fathers after all!
