DJI Phantom 3 Advanced Quadcopter Drone

$779.00

Yes there’s a new version of this guy and yes I’m sure it’s worth the upgrade, however at this point we’re not flying our drone enough to justify buying a new one, since this version still works perfectly for us.

If I was buying now I’d purchase the DJI Phantom 4 Quadcopter because I know the features and quality will be superior to the 3, or maybe I’d go for the DJI Mavic Pro because it’s more compact and fits in my little camera storage “closet” better.  Tough call for sure, but I’m not ready to go there…yet.

We’re loving this drone and if you want to see what it can do, check out this video:

Here it is along with some of our other camera gear and Jason’s initial thoughts:

I usually buy my cameras from B&H, but I always check Amazon too: http://amzn.to/2g7uBez

Hello Nikki and Jason, My husband and I are binge watching your whole series as we start our journey to follow in your footsteps (still in the saving money phase!), you are far and away our favourite vlog to follow. I just wanted to point out (I was looking at the affiliate links for drones) that the smaller one you mention is discontinued on the link you shared, I didn’t know if you needed to update. I am not quite ready for purchase but when I do I will be sure to do so through here so you get a cent or two I hope! x Oli and Tom

Hi Olivia. It’s the largest drone (which is an earlier generation) that has been discontinued. The Mavic Pro is still current although there’s probably a newer version out by now too – tech moves so fast! I’ll make sure the Wynns see this so that we can maybe get an updated version in the Gear Store.
      Thanks!

Hey guys, sorry to hear about your Phantom. Have you reached out to DJI for support? We just purchased a Mavic Pro because we were looking for something we can easily travel with and love it so far. But I’m now a little concerned and hoping that your issue isn’t representative of DJI support long term so please do post an update if you do get the errors fixed!

If DJI makes things right enough that you would buy one of their products again, I can’t say enough good things about our Mavic. I know it’s not waterproof, but it is amazingly small, light, and portable which makes it great for day trips and traveling in small spaces!

I just found out that State Farm will injure my DJI Mavic for $60 a year!

Yep, they insure all of our camera gear for a small fee. It’s like a personal property policy similar to how one would insure an expensive wedding ring or jewelry. 🙂

I have to laugh, just sent you an email and then click on the link to this page. Just yesterday we took the drone (waterproof, but I wont name names) out for a flight and the bloody thing went rogue and crashed into a forest. It is ‘supposed’ to have a safety feature that if it goes out of range it will automatically return home… thank God I used Paypal. The company tells us that without the drone (we spent 2.5 hours looking for it) which has a black box they can’t help us. Should have bought a Phantom it seems…..
