Knives & Sharpener

The Knife Set

I can’t tell you how many kitchens (tiny and gargantuan) I have cooked in that didn’t have proper knives?!  Why make life difficult?

There are basic’s every kitchen should have and a proper set of knives is one of them.  This isn’t the most expensive or high tech but its a good, well rounded set of knives.  This set has served me well for years.  It comes in a fun print or solid set of colors with covers for each (the covers are needed, never store knives in a drawer without covers. I learned that lesson the sharp way).  Buy them from Amazon: https://amzn.to/2vUh7dn

Knife Sharpener

If you are going to get a set of knives, you best have a way to sharpen them.  Because…“Decision is a sharp knife that cuts clean and straight; indecision, a dull one that hacks and tears and leaves ragged edges behind it.”   Here’s one similar to mine.  Good, cheap and gets the job done: https://amzn.to/2Pkl8jc

The Kitchen IQ is not a bad sharpener, especially if you want one that does not require power, but hands down the best sharpener on the market is the Work Sharp knife and tool sharpener. It does require 120v, but it puts a brand new edge on any knife. It is simple to use, lasts forever, and works great. I would upgrade mine to the Ken Onion version, it has angles that are better for Japanese multi-layered knives. Be careful once you sharpen your knives with this thing, you will cut yourself.
