What’s crazier: Jumping out of a plane every day or quitting a 6 figure job to live in a van?The first time I spoke with Mark Rickert of OTG Apps I thought he was awesome! He lives full time in a small RV, he has a well-paying mobile friendly job, he gets to camp for free most of the time and he has the ultimate thrill seeking hobby. I invited Mark to share on our Make Money and Travel series and he “jumped” at the opportunity to share his story in the hopes of convincing others to take the “leap of faith" needed to follow their dreams (I know, horrible puns, I'm sorry). I read Marks story and found I liked him even more than I expected (a real bromance on the horizon)…then I opened the photos he sent and now I hate him! Well, hate is a strong word, but come on, this is the dude's office:
I'll let Mark take over the introduction from here.
This Make Money and Travel story is a little different. It's one of those cases where work and income wasn't absolutely necessary because the guy is retired, however when an opportunity to travel while building the Keystone pipeline came up, it was too good to pass up.When Benny reached out and told us his well paying, fairly easy job not only gave him the opportunity to travel but also reach a financial goal that would allow him to buy his dream home on wheels, well... we thought there may be a few of you out there who might want the same.
Finding a way to Make Money and Travel isn't hard, but it does require some creative thinking (or outside the box as we like to say). As with any successful business, its about figuring out what people need and filling that need. That is exactly how Anne started her location independent bookkeeping business.
The aha moment: When Anne realized she enjoyed monthly tasks like paying bills and reconciling bank accounts, while lots of other people (and business') loathe the idea of updating their books, paying bills and all that kinda stuff!
Anne doesn't have a website or blog to plug here. She started this business after retiring from her 9-5 job at 52 yrs old. She is just one of the many people looking forward to the full time travel lifestyle and she knew there was a way to make money while living on the road. If Anne can do it, so can you!!!
Ideas are great, but they are nothing more than just that without action.Heath and Alyssa had an idea, and then did what so many don't, they put it into action. Now, at the ripe old age of 23 they are experiencing their first year as full-time travelers, filmmakers and writers. Yes, its their first time doing all of it, so far they've been pretty successful and they're sharing with us exactly how they are making it all happen.
Even if you don't have an interest in writing or film-making as a way to Make Money and Travel, Heath and Alyssa have some great words of wisdom for anyone wanting to break out of the norm!
Owen and Amanda aren't your typical working class young couple, their job is to travel the world aboard a luxury yacht in search of beautiful weather and unspoiled sandy beaches. They are often forced to go wakeboarding, snorkeling and sunbathing in the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean.
Did I mention they're getting paid really well to do all of this?
It's true...but would you believe me if I said it's damn hard work?We first heard of this inspiring couple while driveway surfing with our friends Lynn and Hugh in West Jefferson, NC (they're part of the family). What sparked our interest in telling their story is 1. We want to be on the water soon, and 2. The opportunity to make BIG MONEY and Travel The World. The more I talked with these two the more I realized its one helluva rollercoaster life in the charter business, but if you can hold on you'll be taken care of financially and spiritually. Thanks to Owen and Amanda for sharing their lives in such great detail, they don't have a blog, they don't benefit from our article, they are just good people who are hoping to help other dreamers start their own adventure.
Chelsea and Jeremy just returned to the states after 3 years of living in South Korea teaching English. They made good money, traveled to lots of new countries and have decided to share their Make Money and Travel story with us.This adventurous couple saved up enough money over seas to return home, renovate a 30ft RV and should be hitting the road any day now! How they ended up in Korea is very similar as to why a lot of us get started with full time travel. Chelsea and Jeremy were terrified of the idea of settling down after getting married, "you know, house, car, and little things running around in diapers". They have what we call a case of Sedentary Lifeaphobia. So, they packed it all up and moved to the island of Geoje, South Korea to teach English. This is where you may want to go grab yourself a beverage and settle in for another adventure in how to make money and travel!
There are not many “normal”, with benefits, jobs that lend themselves to fulltime travel, especially with a family. So, when Eric (the guy with the cute family in the pic below) agreed to give us the dish on his job as a traveling nurse for our Make Money and Travel series I was stoked! It’s a super cool “normal” job that is perfect for sedentary lifeaphobics.Eric and Sarah, along with their two kids, Michael (7) and Max (5), the dog Satchel (9) and lizard Ned (2) live and travel in their 5th wheel from one town (and nursing gig) to the next. This is how Eric took his job on the road and now makes money and travels…
We have been full time traveling in the RV since July 2010, with the exception of the beginning of this year when we all moved onto a boat while I worked as a nurse on a cruise ship. My wife was a travel agent before being laid off. We loved travel, but we thought since we bought a house, and have 2 kids (and pets) we were done traveling. We couldn't have been more wrong.
