The Island Of No Return (sailing the Philippines)

Once upon a time not so long ago, there was a small island in the Philippines no sailor would dare venture to. Because despite it's beauty, Culion was known by many notorious names; The Island of The Living Dead, The Island of Pain, The Island of No Return.

The citizens of Culion were not criminals, but they were feared and they were prisoners, sentenced never to leave the island. And while times have changed, the story and the island are far from ancient history.

Beneath the tropical façade of a quaint fisherman’s village lies tales of an ancient disease, ingenuity and survival.  A place so complex and curious that we simply couldn’t just sail by.

A big thanks to Pastor Hermie for sharing his story about life then and now in Culion. If you are curious, you can find Hermie on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/pastor.hermz.5

We’re utterly addicted to new experiences and obsessed with searching out Indiana Jones style adventures.

Our catamaran CURIOSITY was born in Asia. There are 48 countries and hundreds of diverse cultures spread across the continent. Here is what we have explored so far.

Each day we set off into the world with curiosity as our guide and compass. We talk to strangers and accept invitations without fear or reservations.  But people are busy (even on remote islands) and travelers are a dime a dozen.  It takes time to talk to strangers, and even more time to have a real connection.  Going the extra mile to get to know someone is a commitment. Which is why these are our most treasured experiences.

Exploring the world like its 1492.
