Exploring Zion National Park

Every time we approach a national park I have the same overwhelming feeling of being very small, amazed and extremely fortunate. National Parks are America’s greatest asset and the fact that we are allowed to explore them is a gift.

Zion National Park is no exception.  The rugged and yet perfectly smooth sculpted landscape is sometimes hard to comprehend.  Some of the slot canyons are so perfectly designed they look more like Gaudi architecture than water and time.

In 36hrs we explored as much of the park as possible and found ourselves completely exhausted but thrilled with the experiences.  Zion has some of the most unique hikes we have been on yet.  Add in water elements, wildlife and stunning views and it becomes one great adventure.

Famous for my "how-not-to" videos, and typically the man behind the camera, sometimes I’m forced to be here in the “spotlight”. When you see my face you’re probably reading something more technical than adventurous, but either way I do my best to tell it like it is and infuse my opinions into the commentary…after all this is a blog and not MSN.

Hello! I am looking to plan a trip to the park soon! What time of year did you visit? Any suggestions on a good time of year?

    reply
    • This visit was in late September/early October and it was a great time of year to be at the park because it wasn’t too hot.

  • On a trip a few years ago we stopped at Zion on a whim. Unfortunately it wasn’t in our schedule so we only got to stay there a day, but even on it’s surface Zion is one of the most beautiful National Parks I’ve ever been to… and I’m from Colorado! Thanks for the video.

Were you really in Zion at the end of November? We were worried it would be too cold (below freezing) by then. We will hit the road in april!

  • I lived in Park City, Utah for 10 years and I’m ashamed to say I’ve never been to Zion. It’s definitely on my list next time around!

I can’t believe you got so close to the deer. They always run away from me.

I bet that water was absolutely freezing! That hike definitely looked worth it after I paused it and saw the amazing scenery. I bet it was even more breath taking in person!
