Our First Passage on an Explorer Yacht

We're wanting to take on high latitude fjords and glaciers with our next floating home, which means we need a proper explorer yacht (sail or motor). And shopping for a vessel dockside is like judging a restaurant by its menu. You get a sense of the possibilities, but you're missing the most important part, the actual experience! Sure, it's great for checking out the layout and design...but nothing, and we mean nothing, compares to real world, hands on experience.
Since nobody likes a tease, we’re taking the next step in our explorer yacht journey. For the next couple of weeks, we’ll be living aboard M/V GALLIVANT, a 64-foot Northern Marine trawler.
She belongs to longtime Curiosity Crew member Mike Harrington and his lovely wife Mia. Mike’s no stranger to boats, he has built and owned several over the years. So when he invited us to join the passage from Ketchikan, Alaska down to his homeport in the San Juan Islands, our answer was an enthusiastic YES, PLEASE!
Join us for our first couple of days aboard as we get to know the vessel, the crew, and share our first impressions of life on the other, motorized, side of cruising.
