The Most Dangerous Ride of Our Lives: Baja 1000

The Baja 1000 is approximately 1000 miles of endless possibilities for bad decisions.  Also known as, an adventure.

It is the toughest off road race in the world with hundreds of miles of brutal desert, mountains, and coastal terrain, that only about 40% of teams even finish.  With zero experience, we were hoping to be part of that 40%.

This is our Baja story, cobbled together from the action cameras that survived, phone footage from our team, other teams and even some of you.

Because sadly just days after the race, our camera was stolen in Amsterdam (that story here).  And with it, most of the footage from one of the wildest adventures we’ve ever attempted: racing the Baja 1000 with the Dirty Amigos.

But here’s the thing.  We don’t need perfect footage to tell this story.  Because Baja isn’t polished, it's raw.

We blew parts, we limped through miles we should’ve flown over, and the hits just kept coming. And then, like only Baja can, we found ourselves facing the decision no racer wants to make.

So this is the story of how The Dirty Amigos fought, broke, and kept going anyway.  Because the Baja 1000 isn’t just a race…it’s an adventure.  And we came here for one thing, to have fun.  Even when everything goes sideways.

To Peter, Joe, Chad, Oliver, Hunter, Kirk, Matt and Scott, you have given us an unforgettable experience together. You are our Dirty Amigos for life!

Thank you to everyone who helped by sharing photos and videos with us. Because this video was a tough one to cobble together after our camera and footage was stolen.

And thank you sooo much to all of our Curiosity Crew for your support. This story was shared thanks to you.

Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: CULTIVATE CURIOSITY

We’re utterly addicted to new experiences and obsessed with searching out Indiana Jones style adventures.

Being the Texans we are, we have always loved and traveled often to Mexico. But we haven't documented much of it...yet.

We've been road trippin' around North America since 2011, have rented vans in New Zealand and Europe, and we inspired Jason's mom to go full time Van Life. So yea, we're fans.

Self-reliance is what lets us wander far from easy access, cell service, and well-worn paths. It's not about doing everything alone, it's about having the confidence to figure things out as we go. That's when remoteness stops feeling risky and starts feeling like freedom. A lesson we’ve learned time and again from the people and communities we’ve met along the way.
