The Most Unique Catamaran We’ve Ever Sailed

After nearly nine months of being docked, we’re finally back to sailing! And not just anywhere—we’re right where our very first big sailing adventure began almost nine years ago: the Bahamas.

Bahamas Bound! Sailing Across The Gulf Stream
[…]

Only this time, we’re doing it aboard a vessel unlike anything we’ve ever sailed.

We're so grateful to our lovely friends Beth and Paul for trusting us with their floating home! Especially because Second Star isn’t just any catamaran. She’s a Windelo—a marvel of modern marine engineering. With electric motors, massive solar panels, the biggest forward cockpit we’ve ever seen, and a hull made from volcanic rock (yep, really. It's called basalt.).

The Bahamas have welcomed us back with familiar faces, gin-clear water, and classic champagne sailing conditions—a much-needed reminder of why we fell in love with this lifestyle in the first place. Plus there’s something special about returning to our roots… even if the boat we’re on is from the future.

Come aboard and join us as we rediscover the joy of sailing—electric style—in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

We’re utterly addicted to new experiences and obsessed with searching out Indiana Jones style adventures.

The Bahamas was our first ocean passage and big destination when we started sailing. The clear shallow waters dotted with hundreds of sandy islands and friendly people hooked us for life. This is arguably the best cruising in the world!

Self-reliance is what lets us wander far from easy access, cell service, and well-worn paths. It's not about doing everything alone, it's about having the confidence to figure things out as we go. That's when remoteness stops feeling risky and starts feeling like freedom. A lesson we’ve learned time and again from the people and communities we’ve met along the way.
