Kicking Off The New Year On The Right Foot

Hello 2018 and Happy New Year friends!

We stayed up late ringing in the new year with gusto and we’re going to assume you did too.  Your tired eyes may not be ready for one of my wordy messages, so I’ll keep it brief.

It’s the first day of the year and we wanted to kick it off on the right foot (pun intended). It’s a new beginning and we decided it should all start with you.

You are such a big part of our world and we can’t thank you enough for choosing to be a part of it.

Sometimes we are lucky enough to know that our lives have been changed, to discard the old, embrace the new, and turn headlong down an immutable course.

Jacques-Yves Cousteau

May your year be blindingly bright and filled with adventure,

Nikki, Jason, Singa and Cleo

new year in panama

  • Date: 12/31/17 –  1/1/18
  • Anchorage:  La Playita is a very rolly anchorage due to all the boat traffic but the Marina dock is the only safe place we found to leave our Dinghy for a night out on the town.  The marina charges $8 a day but they make you pay for the week…however much longer is left in the week.  If it is Monday, you have to pay through Sunday for a total of 7 days.  If it’s Thursday you pay through Sunday for a total of 4 days.  It’s a weird system but it’s the only option and still cheaper than the marina ($150 for the first night).  The bus runs into town and is incredibly cheap at $0.25 cents a ride.  Taxis are still very affordable and much faster if you are in a hurry.  A cab from the marina to or from Casco Viejo is $6-15 depending on the time of day (they don’t like to work late, can’t say I blame them).

Thank You!

An extra special shout-out to everyone who has shopped through our gear store, those who have left a tip in our jar and big love to our Patreons who have made a tremendous difference in our lives.  The collective support has afforded us the time and dedication to share more videos this year than ever before. It’s viewers like you that make it all possible.  Thank You!

Hello there! I honestly don’t know what to say, so I am going to tell you a bunch of random facts instead. I'm a fish eating vegetarian who hates spiders and loves snakes. I almost never took vacations growing up. I wanted to be Pippi Longstocking (still do). I misspell about every other word I write and still struggle with grammar. I love splurging on a good high tea (which is really hard to find these days). And whatever you do, don’t tell me I can’t do something, because then I'll HAVE to do it!

    Hey Nikki and Jason,
One of my life goals is to sail the Bahamas so I was searching out videos of folks crossing the Florida straits a few weeks ago and came across your channel. I’m hooked! I’ve binge watched all your videos and have gotten caught up so far. Panama looks amazing. I love the joy that you two have and express in all your videos. I’m a fan. Thanks for sharing your adventure and for inspiring others. Happy travels! I’ll be watching and plotting my own sailing adventure.

    Hi Jason & Nikki,
Been benge ( I’m like you Nikki, can’t spell to save my life LOL) watching your adventure since the beginning wh3n you were shopping for your boat. I’ve totally inspired by you guys, I love you all! Sooo…a bit about me, I’m a 75 year old retiree on a very fixed income wishing I could do what you guys are doing. Oh by the way just to let you know you guys are still on your honey moon….. My bride and I have been married for 52 years:>). I’ve thinking of starting a you tube channel and maybe work towards supplementing my fixed income a little. I have 75 years of wisdom( and mistakes) that maybe I could pass on, hopefully some people would be interested. What do you think? Would you be interested?
    Thank you so much

Happy New Year! Travel safe. Love following your journey starting back in that gray-coloured class A. Now I am just beginning, howbeit very small in a Class B Roadtrek and only part time. Gotta start somewhere. Heading to Sedona now and then to Quartsite for the RTR. I’m another Canadian from Ontario travelling solo.
All the best in 2018 and journey on.

Awesome production. Congrats to you both. I have enjoyed your wandering traveler blog since 2 RV’s ago. If you were foodie’s or yacht brokers you’d have your own TV show. But then you couldn’t be wandering travelers. Keep doing what you obviously love.

Happy New Year to both of you , let’s all hope your adventure just gets better !! You must think back over this last period of sailing sometime with wonder and just how fantastic it’s all turned out . I would imagine that it’s been far better than you could ever had hoped for . Just wonder how much better it can be as everyday you’ll get a little better at sailing and become masters of the sea and everything ahead

Happy new year. Wonderful up to the moment video. I’m so glad I can be a part of your adventure. I’ma fairly restless yet lazy person with a fear of flying so I’m excited to watch what you do. I have a tendency to buy houses (and lose money each time) as an outlet for my whatever. I used to travel when I was a younger adult (lived in Scotland for two years), and as a kid moved a bit with a navy dad. It’s fun to watch you grow and learn and I can’t wait to see your south seas adventures. I long to see Tahiti and New Zealand and Australia. Yay for you guys!!!!

Happy New Year from one of your inspired followers. I am 70. I just sold my home of 34 years and moved into a 21 foot Winnebago Travato. I’m heading to LA (with my 12 year old cat) to pick up my 96 year old Mom, and we are hitting the southern route of the US for as long as we can stand it! It’s NEVER too late. BTW, my daughter calls me a Badass! Cheers. Thanks for your beautiful videos.
