NOT What I Expected To Find Up Here

It takes effort to cram a one-hour job into three and finely tuned skills to turn it into a full-day event.  It’s the one thing I feel we’re truly gifted at.

This week we were particularly on fire.  What was supposed to be a simple job of going up the mast to swap out the radar dome turned into a full-blown wildlife rescue and rehabilitation mission.

Turns out, you never know what you’re going to find up there.

Ups, downs and all arounds, we share it all. We’re able to do so because people like you show up each week, read, watch, comment, share, shop our gear store, and toss a tip in our production jar. If you like what you see, there are lots of FREE ways you can show your support.

Hello there! I honestly don’t know what to say, so I am going to tell you a bunch of random facts instead. I'm a fish eating vegetarian who hates spiders and loves snakes. I almost never took vacations growing up. I wanted to be Pippi Longstocking (still do). I misspell about every other word I write and still struggle with grammar. I love splurging on a good high tea (which is really hard to find these days). And whatever you do, don’t tell me I can’t do something, because then I'll HAVE to do it!

Of all the times I say this, it no where near comes close to the real thing describing this video: You just can’t make this stuff up! Y’all are on some kind of adventure huh?

But I say we need to ban together to get Jeff a new Weather Vane, or whatever that thing was Batty McVane got stuck on!!

    Cheers from Louisiana!

Jason and Nikki, you guy’s have many talents. Incredible bat rescue, so cute. It seem to be talking to you in the kennel. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a bat talk in all my times watching animal shows. Reminds me of the Conure parrot we had as a pet talking. Nature is working you up to rescuing alligators, that’s the video I want to see. (or sharks !) Jason, very brave going up there, your a man who gets the job done, you guy’s are a good team, definitely takes two.

Jason, at the beginning there I think you had a good new fashion idea, not just women can wear netting and look that good.
Fun entertainment, thanks, its what we need during these hard times.

Recently found your website and have been thoroughly enjoying all your videos! Thanks for brightening my rather gloomy year 🤗 seeing you two together reminds me of that Billy Joel song ‘You’re my home

When you look into my eyes
And you see the crazy gypsy in my soul
It always comes as a surprise
When I feel my withered roots begin to grow

Well I never had a place that I could call my very own
That’s all right, my love, ’cause you’re my home

When you touch my weary head
And you tell me everything will be all right
You say, “Use my body for your bed
And my love will keep you warm throughout the night”
Well, I’ll never be a stranger and I’ll never be alone
Wherever we’re together, that’s my home

Home can be the Pennsylvania Turnpike
    Indiana’s early morning dew
High up in the hills of California
Home is just another word for you

Well I never had a place that I could call my very own
That’s all right, my love, ’cause you’re my home

If I travel all my life
And I never get to stop and settle down
Long as I have you by my side
There’s a roof above and good walls all around

You’re my castle, you’re my cabin and my instant pleasure dome
I need you in my house ’cause you’re my home
    You’re my home

Fair winds and following seas to you both xx

    Hi Jason & Nikki,
Jeff (& Debby) from SV Making Memories. Great rescue! That bat is gone with the wind (or is it Wynn’s – LOL)

Don’t you just love the random stuff that can happen with the boat life!? Many thanks to Cyril, Bo and the boys as well. We will add a wind hawk to the many other spares in the suitcases to bring back with us once things open.

Loved getting to see our girl in your videos. Miss our home in the worst way! Can’t wait for the borders to re-open so we can enjoy all our projects to get her ready to splash and re-start our circumnavigation!
    Cheers

Sorry about the sacrifice but at least you know to pack the spare. I’ll make sure N&J see your comment. Fingers crossed that you can get back to your girl soon!

Awesome job. I know that replacing the radar had to look like a monstrous task, and you are so lucky to have each other working together. No way could I get my wife up on that mast and no way would I get up that high, so our radar would stay broken until we found someone who knew how to fly. This was just an overall great video. By the way, my next door neighbor is an engineer with Garmin in their marine division. If and when you send the unit back, assuming it goes to headquarters in Kansas City, drop a message in one of your videos and I will check on the status of what they discovered.

Great video. No, I did not see the big, fast bug that crawled out and around the box until Patron Jacques pointed it out. Thanks.
That was a tough install Jason to balance that once you got the new one up there but quick thinking on the banana hammock. 👍
That Bat was cute and the wing span seemed 4 to 5 feet. Huge critter in good hands. I believe they are very intelligent. It looked it.

I guess I’m glad away to the end of the day to watch the video.

I can say I was a little nervous with you carrying that 24 foot Garmin up. I’m so glad it all went OK!

I didn’t realize fruit bats where that cute. I’ve heard them before in the trees in Australia making lots of crazy noises long into the night. Glad she got healed back to health! Way to go! 👏👏👏

I can’t wait until you try out new Garmin radar then compare it to the old. I’d like to see the difference. That was very nice thing you guys did with the fruit bat. You can tell your getting closer to getting in the water. Your getting more excited and actually in a fantastic mood. More good juju your way…

Hello Curious Minion, this page, https://www.gonewiththewynns.com/not-expected-mast-find as I am writing this, Sunday 12:45 pm PST, doesn’t seem to have the link to the YouTube video. Perhaps you would be able to edit the page to include the video? Looks like most people have figured out how to find it anyway.

Decided to watch again now, so did same again and… Got here and no picture and no video link?!? Cleared cache and restarted apps…. Same thing. Start of blogpost, end of blogpost, no picture and no link. Odd.

Went to your youtube channel. Easily accessed the video from there with no problem.

So, folks who don’t see the picture or the link in the blog might be able to watch if they click on the youtube icon down at the bottom of this page or use a browser to go to http://www.gonewiththewynns.com, click videos, and access the video directly from there.

        Hope this helps.
