first impressions of our new HH44 catamaran

SEA TRIAL IS OVER (we sailed across the south china sea)

This might be a new record of firsts.  It’s the final day of our first passage aboard our brand-new Catamaran (not something I ever thought I would say).  It’s our first check in to a new country, our first night at anchor and our first nights alone. 🤯

It’s all been a lot.  A lot of good, but a lot.

We’re in a strange state of disbelief coupled with a euphoric honeymoon stage of being in love with our new home.  And seems you guys are right there with us!  There were thousands of comments on last weeks video and I swear, we have read almost every one of them.  It’s surreal experiencing this new chapter of life with a rally squad.  You being excited, makes it all soooo much more exciting for us.🙏🏼

Which is why we thought we should take the time to follow up with some answers to your most asked questions and our first impressions of CURIOSITY2.  Because we know you are dying to know, after the past 2 years, is it everything we hoped and dreamed it would be?

Everything up until this moment really has felt like sea trials.  Let the new adventure begin…

🙏 WE COULDN’T MAKE THESE VIDS WITHOUT YOU!

Thank you for watching!  Ups, downs, and all around, we share it all. If you like what you see, there are lots of ways you can show your support.

Hello there! I honestly don’t know what to say, so I am going to tell you a bunch of random facts instead. I'm a fish eating vegetarian who hates spiders and loves snakes. I almost never took vacations growing up. I wanted to be Pippi Longstocking (still do). I misspell about every other word I write and still struggle with grammar. I love splurging on a good high tea (which is really hard to find these days). And whatever you do, don’t tell me I can’t do something, because then I'll HAVE to do it!

So happy for you two, and the rest of us to be able to go along with you😉 And Yes please explain the flag(s) bikini thing I’ve never really quite understood what flags are what and why ( I do get that you have to wave the country’s flag of the port you are staying in but there’s something missing still for me there and what are the other flags of different colors all for and also that stamp thing, what’s on the stamp, is that your official boat signature design stamp? Also after the vlog was over it showed an episode of you giving a now current vlog tour of your new boat, but then it blipped gone and it’s not with your list to watch. Usually you do that for everybody but are you doing that now just for patrons? Take care happy to see you two in your new home ⛵ 💝🐱😄

Hi there. A boat stamp typically has the name of the boat, registration number, and maybe port of call and sometimes a logo or graphic. So when you’re filling out paperwork to enter or exit a country, you can use the stamp and sign your name on it. Just saves some writing.

As for the boat tour video, it’s on the blog under the “Our Sailboat” heading. Here it is for you! https://www.gonewiththewynns.com/curiosity-sailboat

    Good morning,

So, I doubt you did, but did you all include a composting toilet on the boat? Are they fresh water or sea water?

    Just Curious.

    Thanks,

Can you tell me more about the boat stamp? Where did you get it? What does it look like? Does it just need the boat name? Y’all’s name too? Logo?

Well, I guess once they’ve lived aboard long enough to experience a rain storm we’ll all get the answer to this question! Because curious minds want to know.

Love you new boat. I assume you have an induction stove. As crazy as it sounds, you can keep your stove cleaner by placing a paper towel under the pot. The food will heat up and the paper towel will stay cool and the stove will stay clean.

Thanks for the great video. 👍
Watching Jason is great. He cannot stop smiling. I believe I have mentioned that before. 🙂
In the ending scene of you both sitting there you both looked so grown up and adult. I don’t know why. It just struck me. 🤷‍♂️
Just curious! What do the Marshall Islands boat registry have over all the others? ❓
    Best,

I’m well aware of how much work goes into editing, and cutting, and everything that makes the videos work. Jason is an insanely creative videographer. My only disappointment is when the video is over. Fortunately, I have years of the Goddess playing with the mammals of the sea. Don’t ever quit. I love you guys, no matter what you are writing about.

Video projectors are good at night but not on a bright sunny day. I had one for my home but have now bought a Flat TV and they have all sizes to pick from and you just plug in your computer etc and play whatever you like, and they are so thin you could hang it overhead and the just swing it down when you want to watch something. plus, you can use it as a large computer screen as well.

    reply
  • Richard

Maybe a drop down TV screen that is mounted to a track and pivots so maximum flexibility is attained for multiple viewing alternatives…. So happy for you both!!!

A walk around bed would be nice! All new RV’s have that so I was surprised your boat did not have that.

    Greetings Jason and Nikki,
So for how long have I been following you? I remember when Jason accidentally dropped his camera in a creek.

BU that’s not what I’m writing you about. I’m writing to suggest a Drama Genre you may not be familiar with (at least I haven’t heard you mention them.): Chinese XianXia, and South Korean Drama.

To see if you would like it, I would suggest “Alchemy of Souls”, or “Hotel Del Luna” for the S. Korean. and
“The Untamed” and “The Legend of White Snake”. They are all on Netflix. I recommend hearing them in the original language with subtitles. If you take a gander and decide you hate them…that’s ok. BTW, they are like tea, slow burning, as opposed to our caffein adventures. I really love them and they can be extremely insightful on so many levels. Just a thought.

There are a couple of Basecamp Airstreamers (Tay & Brock) who use the Adhesive Hooks with a projector screen, and a three-suction mount with a Nebula projector (which allows the screen and projector to be moved as needed). Here is the YouTube link to the video which explains their setup (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoQP0kOrwhk). Hope this helps…

Beautiful boat! And the hybrid motor is so cool! Thank you for sharing your journey. I’m sailing vicariously with you. Quick question, how long can you motor using only electric and are there separate batteries for the engines or do they draw from the same battery bank that powers the rest of the living space in your boat? And to go along with this, how much savings are you experiencing over your previous diesel engines?

Have you heard of Beddies? They use them on RV’s. They make making the bed easy. Look them up. Might work on the boat.

It would probably be an overstatement to say I was as excited as you to move aboard, but I did check in every week to see how close you were to taking ownership of the boat. Last week I was THRILLED to see you on board (lovely that the HH employees helped schlep stuff) and be on your way – and this morning (Sun, Feb 25) I could not wait to see how you were faring. I look forward to the boat tour (and am disappointed at no video next Sunday). I was impressed with the food Nikki prepared for the whole gang. It looks better than what I make 5 minutes from three different grocery stores – all carrying familiar ingredients and products. At 67, I’m almost 5 years retired and living vicariously through you! Wishing you safe passages. (And can I just say how lovely it is to see how kind you are to one another?)

Most people move and they are in chaos for maybe 3 weeks. You guys have been trying to settle in for 2 years! You 2 did it beautifully, the boat is gorgeous and worth the wait. Excited about the full boat tour, and if you find a projection screen. So cool!

Hello, Nikki and Jason. After two years of planning, waiting and anticipation, you have come out the other side relaxed and with hopes and dreams in tact and come through so gracefully. You have beat the odds against ‘Great Expectations’ and I am so happy for you!.

You know one of the best parts of this video—-the background scenes while you are sitting and talking to us. Gorgeous!! You are talking a lot about generating power and energy on your boat, I imagine your first week alone on Curiosity will allow you to personally reset and calm yourselves. It’s truly been a crazy time for you and while your onboard help was probably invaluable, some much needed alone time will recharge your personal batteries. Love you and Godspeed.

You have every right to be HAPPY on your new boat/home and it is a beautiful vessel in every way. You both have done a great job along with HH building a place live, love and travel together. Enjoy every moment. I do.

I’m not trying to fearmonger or cast a pall over your happiness with your new boat, but I do think you will be sailing in more dangerous waters and hope you will act and plan accordingly, be vigilant, and have taken measures to protect yourselves for the worst case. Sailing with another boat whenever possible will be your best strategy.
