one final boat project

Last Boat Project As Owners

We’re down to our last couple of weeks as boat owners and our task list is dwindling.  But we still have one final project to tackle together.

And don’t you know, just when we need to be most productive…we get infected!  We have Covid.  Which has set us back but hasn’t completely derailed us.  So if you’ve been wondering why we’ve been so quiet, that’s why.

Join us for one last boat project and some good news about what’s next.

🙏 THANK YOU!

Ups, downs, and all around, we share it all. If you like what you see, there are lots of ways you can show your support.

Hello there! I honestly don’t know what to say, so I am going to tell you a bunch of random facts instead. I'm a fish eating vegetarian who hates spiders and loves snakes. I almost never took vacations growing up. I wanted to be Pippi Longstocking (still do). I misspell about every other word I write and still struggle with grammar. I love splurging on a good high tea (which is really hard to find these days). And whatever you do, don’t tell me I can’t do something, because then I'll HAVE to do it!

I tested the OC while in Whangarei NZ, really liked it a lot. We have a 40’ aft cockpit convertible cutter. To fit the OC up on the bow our normal crossing storage position upside down it sticks up in the air so high, it is hard to see over. The longer version like our 2003 Avon hypalon fiberglass folding transom 10’ 3”, 96#s, we have, the OC would not fit, so could not open the boat anchor locker. Getting a shorter OC meant less room for number of people, or scuba gear and still hard to see over, plus our Tohatsu 9.8hp, 4 cycle was too heavy. We do have an electric Torqeedo Travel 1003s, 30 lbs, that has worked out great on the Avon. We charge the battery with our solar power. Easy to start, fast and easy to load, unload. Goes a long ways. Avon deflates and tucks into a sock about 6” high, so easy to see over. So far Avon is in good shape. OC’s are expensive especially in carbon fiber, but they make a sailing version kit you can add on too. Even more money. Avon rows well too.

Nice work guys. Just a subtle mention [tease] regarding the new boat. Look forward to next week.

Hubby nor I have gotten Covid yet and neither of us have been vaccinated. Hubby has not slowed down. Goes & does as he wishes, even when we were shutdown. He isn’t a madk wearer or a hand washer. I guess we are lucky we haven’t gotten it. We are in our late 60s.

Can’t wait to see the new boat! You have done a lot or work. New owners are very lucky. Stay healthy & enjoy life. It’s all we have now. HUGS~Donna

So glad you made it through Covid, now you have natural immunity. I was curious about when you put Curiosity up for sale if you included your You Tube channel so buyers could see how well you have taken care of it. I cannot wait (so email me privately-no one will know) to see the new boat and what you’ll do during down time. Rest up rest up rest up. Good job to you both. You both look FABulous! Love and sunshine to you.

I can’t believe you two got COVID after all your isolation and precautions through these last two years. New Zealand seemed to stay safe and pretty strict with their isolation, but someone obviously slipped in unnoticed. That’s all it takes for an unvaccinated community to be exposed. I’m so glad you both are recovering well. When you can, get vaccinated, because you can get it again. Best wishes in your new venture.

I can’t say it enough; it really pays to get the vaccine and boosters. But it also pays to always, and I mean always, use N95-type respirators indoors. The surgical or cheap cloth masks do not work.

I guess you just figured that out for yourself. 😉

The risk of long-haul damage is just simply too great to ignore; even for vaccinated peeps. Doctors know of no way to reverse the damage. Scary stuff, that.

Please be careful! We’d hate to lose you.

I’m glad you two are feeling better, and I look forward to seeing what the future has for you on your new boat. Curious … are you taking any kitchen gadgets with you? Pour over pot, scale, & coffee grinder? From watching you over the years, you seem to really enjoy your coffee (me too). Take care. Be well. Stay safe.

There is a very squeaky high pitched sound when Nikki is talking. Needs some sort of recording adjustment. When do we get to see the new boat ?

Interesting but I’ve listened to the vid (with headphones and without) & didn’t hear it, and I haven’t seen any other complaints about a squeak. I’m not sure why you’re hearing it.

Congratulations Jason and Nikki! Whoever is purchasing Curiosity ate very lucky owners to be getting such a famous and well maintained catamaran.
I can’t wait to see what the new one looks like and for you guys to do a full tour!

    Jason/Niki,
are y’all coming back home during your down time from sailing? If so, be sure to get lots of sun tan lotion and cool clothes. It’s already 105 deg here and predicted to get hotter and it’s just the first of June. Hope that’s not a sign for the rest of the summer.
Glad you quickly received a buyer for Curiosity during this down turn in the economy.
Hope your health returns to full strength and you’re able to resume your preparation for the new adventure. T

Hey guys, can’t wait to see the new boat. Glad your well, I haven’t got covid yet, but everyone around me has. My doctor said it may be my blood type that gives me immunity… I think it’s luck.

Jason – What were you thinking doing a project before coffee???? Especially with Covid brain!! So gald you were able to finish up that project! Brilliant Nikki for the mouse thread idea!

Will you leave all of your beautiful dishes, and your great coffee and tea gadgets on the boat for the new owners?

I can’t wait to have you back home again for a while – even if it is a short while.

Thanks very much for this video. Very excited for you regarding your new digs.
You treated Curiosity with Class A boat workmanship. She is a great boat for beginners like you were and for the experienced Sailors like you are today.
Congratulations on this part of your adventure.
Sorry to hear you both got covid. I got it after a year and a half of really trying to be safe and not touch anything or anyone wherever I went.
I always washed my hands a lot before covid but now I am much more conscious of washing my hands. I am sure you will have a negative test in the next couple of days Nikki.
Enjoy yourselves in the Land Of Wonder.

After avoiding it for 2 years, I tested positive. Had both Phizer shots. Sore throat for 2 days, got Paxlovid and tested negative at the end of the week. Wife didn’t have it. Hard to predict but I’m wishing you all the best and I look forward to your next adventures!

I haven’t had Covid yet, however, I really appreciate you showing taking a positive test and still being able to function – makes it much less scary.
