jason and nikki wynn on the first passage aboard CURIOSITY 2!

A MAD DASH OUT OF CHINA (our first sail)

We’ve just been handed our brand new HH44 Catamaran (a 2 year dream in the making). And we only have 3 days before we must sail the boat out of the country.

Most sailors would take it slow for the shakedown period and coastal cruise for the first month or so while they get to know the vessel. But, we don’t have that luxury.

Because this boat was built for export and once completed, it must be exported out of the country. So no local cruising for us. Due to the weather patterns and time of year, our best option right now is to sail the 600+ miles across the South China Sea, through the Taiwan Straits (notoriously treacherous bit of water) and into the Philippines. That’s one helluva first sail!  Welcome to the world S/V CURIOSITY.

In other words this is not a shakedown cruise. This is a multi-day Bluewater passage that will have to serve as our shakedown.

Goodbye China and hello Philippines.

We owe a lot of thanks to so many people for helping us during these pivotal days.  A big thanks to the HH Team for helping us successfully out of China (Molly and Anna, you both deserve big red envelopes!)

Casey, you are a mad man in all the best ways. Thanks for being so helpful and most importantly, making a stressful time a lot more fun! Looking forward to sharing an anchorage one day soon! (P.S.  you can follow Casey and Erin on Instagram @endlessplaytime)

And to all our Patrons, these videos wouldn’t be possible without you. So Thank YOU!

Hello there! I honestly don’t know what to say, so I am going to tell you a bunch of random facts instead. I'm a fish eating vegetarian who hates spiders and loves snakes. I almost never took vacations growing up. I wanted to be Pippi Longstocking (still do). I misspell about every other word I write and still struggle with grammar. I love splurging on a good high tea (which is really hard to find these days). And whatever you do, don’t tell me I can’t do something, because then I'll HAVE to do it!

Congratulations on your beautiful new home base for adventure! I started following your journey in 2022, and you had just purchased the Leopard. I’ve savored every episode with mixed emotions, eager to binge-watch them, but knowing that when I finally catch up to real-time, I’d have to wait patiently for the weekly video posts. It is nice to have caught to the present day just as you set sail in this new chapter!

I’m so happy for you guys and can hardly wait for your adventures that lie ahead. You are incredibly special people and your audience has learned a great deal from you. I’m grateful l that you welcome us aboard each week to follow along with you.

You’ve inspired me to take my son on a cabin charter on a cat in the BVI later this year to get a little taste of your lifestyle. Thank you!

Congratulations on your new adventure/boat! What a beautiful boat you now own and sail!! A Hot Boat on a Cool Ocean.
    2 questions.
At 20:39 why were you cooking in the dark? Aren’t you supposed to be in the kitchen at night?
Also, checking out your new dishwasher at 33:34 in the video, where does your grey water go?
Continued safe travels and Happy days to come.

      Hey Alan,
The bright lights in the salon/galley would ruin the night vision of whoever’s on watch and most of that passage was through areas with lots of fishing buoys and boats. They have color-changing LED strip lighting in there and I’m surprised that wasn’t on, but maybe her eyes were already adjusted. As for the grey water, the dishwasher is close enough to the sink that I’m sure it’s plumbed to the same thru-hull or sump that the kitchen sink drains to. Most boats drain greywater directly overboard so you need to be very careful about what kind and how much soap you use.
Hope that helps, and maybe Nikki or Jason will elaborate.

We’re following your journey! Wish we could kayak out to meet you in Philippines and be your first visitors on the new boat like we were in Fort Lauderdale. What a trip you are having! We’re currently at a Van Life gathering in Florida and have met others who follow you. Small world. Keep on sailing – and sharing with us. Love it.

Wow!!! Grandma Rita and I just viewed the video!!! So excited for you both!!! How exhilarating it must feel I’m sure for both of you. The boat is beautiful!!! The 3 days looked like a crazy amount of work… but nothing is impossible for you!!! I pray that God watches over you in your travel’s-keeps you safe as you see the world as others don’t always have the opportunity to…
Florida has been cold and rainy so far. Tony has only caught 1 small fish with 3 bites total. Others are having the same experience. Hoping for warmer waters!!! I’m currently in Hot Springs, Grandma is going back with us to Florida for a bit until Grandpa Roy’s 90th birthday. Love you both!!!

We have watched you from your first days of boating. Your first “Curiosity” was docked next to our boat at Grand Harbor in Vero Beach. I remember our neighbors, the owners from Canada, telling us about you guys. We lived on our 45′ Trawler for 10 Years and Loved it! Enjoy the adventure, we enjoy following it with you! What a Beautiful boat!!!
