Sailing or should I say cruising isn’t much of a workout, especially on a long passage. The general walkabout the boat, changing of sails and grinding of winches is great, but it’s a far cry from a solid workout. Here’s what we do to stay fit while sailing about the world.
Resistance bands are like a tiny personal gym and a seriously good option for any traveler of any style. They can be used almost anywhere on land or on the boat. They don’t take up much space, are super affordable and light weight.
Yoga is and has been our go to for over 10 years. It’s amazing what 10-15 min of yoga stretches can do for your back, hips and well…everything. Maintaining core strength and balance is important for everyone but especially important on a sailboat. You certainly don’t need a yoga mat, but I like the extra grip and cushion of the mat. Not to mention it keeps me off the ever salty floor.
Need a massage? Get a roller! It’s the best substitute I have found for the real deal and way cheaper. A few min of massaging the back, thighs and bum…well, it’s not quite like a day at the spa but it’s as close as we’re going to get.
