SAILING TO SALVATION ISLAND

We say goodbye to Coromandel and spend the week island hopping our way back towards the Auckland area.  Our first port of call is the island of Waiheke, again.

This time we’re aiming for the east side and more specifically the dinghy-up winery at Man O’ War.  Because our wine bar is empty and that doesn’t bode well with the crew of CURIOSITY.

But this is sailing in New Zealand and the winds move in mysterious ways and in turn so must we.

Ironically, instead of satisfying our thirsty desires at a beachside winery, we find ourselves on a wild island once reserved for those seeking salvation from the devil’s spirit.

Hello there! I honestly don’t know what to say, so I am going to tell you a bunch of random facts instead. I'm a fish eating vegetarian who hates spiders and loves snakes. I almost never took vacations growing up. I wanted to be Pippi Longstocking (still do). I misspell about every other word I write and still struggle with grammar. I love splurging on a good high tea (which is really hard to find these days). And whatever you do, don’t tell me I can’t do something, because then I'll HAVE to do it!

Didn’t see having starlink as a must have on new boat. Seem like something you would want to have?

Well I’m sure it is, but it’s not something that the boat manufacturers include with the boat, so it didn’t get included in the list. I don’t believe it’s available for purchase world-wide yet either.

You guys choose the best music for these videos. It must take hours to cull out the good from the… less than good.

Aaaahhh the birdies! I love those little piwakawakas 💜.

I just spent the last two RV life weeks by a bird refuge lake in Utah. Birdsong in the morning with a cuppa is like floating in a vat of whipped cream – or so I imagine. Regardless, it’s heaven. With spring full on here all the little feather-balls are twitterpated, so the songs are extra flirty, and watching this video while the avian world gets its funky groove on outside my screen made my day. (Not in a weird way!.. 😳)
    ..Moving on.

Love those sailing days! Never stop creating your videos, they are soul gold for gypsy hearts!

Hi Wynns. Thanks for bringing all of us along with you on this week’s adventure. I totally enjoyed it and it was really great to see.
It is so cool to hear about the Trust rewilding Rotoroa out there. I support rewilding anywhere and everywhere. With 7.8 billion people on this planet wild nature and the wild environment has more potential to disappear quicker now. We all have to be extra vigilant to keep more of it.
Great birds. It looks like they are doing a great job rewilding with all the cool birds to see and listen too.
Those avocados in your lunch looked delicious. Those were good lookin bowls.

Hey, you can’t eat meat… specially bacon… Sorry, I couldn’t help it, but you said: “don’t tell me I can’t do something, because then I’ll HAVE to do it!” From one of those people who feels raising large animals properly, prevents desertification and growing plants improperly does cause desertification. Unfortunately, I don’t think either gets done properly. Anyway, this was meant to be more of a joke not so serious. In truth, if I was crossing oceans I would be eating vegetarian food with fish as well, just because meat doesn’t last that long unless dried or canned and because fish is a good enough meat for me. Glad it is vegetable for you though (just like pizza is in some USA school systems). Anyway, always happy to eat at a vegetarian table. Wonderful story of your travels that is inspiring to all.

Really enjoy your videos. Been following you for years since you were land travelers. You may be doing this but not evident in the video. To keep your skiff from grounding with the tides, tie a line onto the bottom of your anchor, place the anchor on the bow with enough scope from it to skiff to secure it to the bottom, then push it out to sea. Pull the anchor off the bow w/the line you tied on to it when it gets to it farthest reach and secure the line on the beach. Time to go, pull the anchor in with the skiff and hop aboard.

We did this trick for years in Pudget Sound. Many times we were able to retrieve the boat feet dry.

Whenever that happens, just go directly to the GWTW YouTube page and watch it there. It’s some type of conflict with your browser/privacy settings most likely, but easy to get around. https://www.youtube.com/c/gonewiththewynns/videos

Seriously, Is it anymore an inconvenience to wear a life vest in a dinghy than it is to wear a safety belt in a car?
