There’s a lot we were told about the Pennsylvania Dutch Country but not one person told us about the beer culture! With a micro brew in every direction, and each brewery as good, or at least as interesting as the next. The beer (especially the Tap Room) was some of the best beer we have had to date!  But now that we've shared a virtual cold one, let’s talk about the hype of Dutch Country.  Now....we realize that some of you are all about the kitsch and there is a strong possibility you may be offended by our next statement, so you may want to skip this one.

We spent a little over a week exploring Myrtle Beach, Georgetown and everything in between. Jason’s brother Jacob drove down from Wilmington to hang out for a couple of days.  We spent all of about 2 hours on the strip of Myrtle Beach and we couldn’t force ourselves to do anymore.  It was just one giant tourist trap!  There was nothing unique or special that we could find.  Unless you count having every single Ripley’s attraction all within 5 blocks of each other as special.  Although, I’m not going to lie… we did visit a couple of the Ripley’s for giggles and the Mirror Maze was a little trickier to navigate than we expected.

July 11-14 2012 Heading out of Maine As we head out of the Bar Harbor area and towards New Hampshire we come to a sign that says, “Fort Knox”. We looked at each other very confused and say, “I didn’t think Fort Knox was in Maine?” So, we turned in and decided we should go check it out. After all, what’s a road trip good for if you don’t discover something new along the way! First thing we notice is how open it is…not exactly locked down like Fort Knox. Come to find out, this is the first Fort Knox but not the one with all of the gold….dang; we could have tried out our Bonnie and Clyde skills! The Fort Knox with the gold is in Kentucky. This Fort Knox is on the Penobscot River in Prospect, Maine and is known for its architectural features and its history with cannon batteries. [gallery layout="lightbox" columns="2" ids="3184,3181"]

July 1, 2012 – Campfire and conversation This morning we got up early to capture some footage and shots of our campground from the water.  Jason loves to shoot by kayak these days.  I can’t say I blame him.  He gets to sit and look for pretty shots while I paddle him around.  All the fun of kayaking without any of the work!  Not that I am bitter, jealous is a better word.  We had to be out of the water by 9:30am.  With the dramatic tides here in Maine, if you don’t make it back to shore before low tide you will be slopping back in the mud.
